Originating from the downfall of the grindcore band Scum, Amon Amarth shaped in 1992, embracing their name from a reference to J.R.R. Tolkien’s anecdotal setting, Middle-earth. Amon Amarth surrendered the bad-to-the-bone punk sound of Scum, dropping their past spastic propensities and exploring different avenues regarding dull dream like soundscapes driven by the conventional agonizing structure of counterparts like In Flames,Six Feet Under, and At the Gates.
Amon Amarth put out their first demo “Thor Arise” in 1993 after not long after the arrival of Scum’s 1991 demo and their consequent reformulation. “Thor Arise” was unpleasant and incoherent; all things considered, it indicated incredible potential and animated a solid clique following in certain metal subsects.
